Update 1.6 changelog: bugfixes and QoL improvements


What’s inside the new update?

  • A bugfix that fixes the hard crash when a shape gets removed while getting hit (for sure, this time :)) (thx hekhound and Niashi for reports!)
  • Owls now make a hoot sound when activated so that it’s easier to recognize mistakenly activated owls by ear (thx parchmentEngineer for the suggestion!)
  • An optional quality of life improvement that highlights a group of activated shapes that is okay to send off. While playing, open the Playdate menu and activate it there.
  • A nicer beat animation using a the top half of a very fancy cosine function!

I worked on this update for some time and I hope that the highlights (so far I’m not sure about the name, haha) will be interesting for players! It’s one of the features that I wish were in the game from the start but I only came up with it several months after release.

I’d like to turn them ON by default in the next update (the main thing in that one should be a revised tutorial) but I’m curious about what you’ll think about them. They should make the game easier for beginners and crazy folks playing at speeds above 50, too 🙂

I'm still fairly rubbish at this, but it's a brilliant game and the highlights option definitely doesn't hurt :D
